Partner 11: Association d’Initiatives Locales pour l’Energie et l’Environnement

Jaques Bernard

AILE is a local energy agency created in 1995 under the European SAVE programme in partnership with ADEME of Brittany (Agency for Environment and Energy Management) and FRCUMA Ouest (Western Regional Federation of Co-operatives for the Use of Farming Engines). It employs 10 people and has been involved in several European project as coordinator, among which Green Pellets (LIFE+ 2007), and EFFICIENT20 (Intelligent Energy Europe, 2009) AILE is working on renewable energies and energy savings in agricultural and rural areas of Western France. Its two main missions are:

- non food biomass valorisation, with special focus on Short Rotation Coppice of willow, development of woodchips boilers and supply chain, and biogas production at farm level. A new field of interest is how to implement an energy policy at local level in rural areas.

- diagnosis of farm engines (farm tractors and sprayers)

In COMBINE project, the main focus will be put on two actions :

- at local level, AILE will focus on finding outputs for the gathered biomasses, and will implement the feasibility studies and impact assessment at regional level (WP2)

- at transnational level, AILE will transfer the combustion tests protocol established in Green Pellets project (WP)

AILE will also take over parts of the regional coordination and the WP4 activities together with the CG22
